Pirate Baseball Coaches Philosophy

The lessons you learn by being an athlete prepare you to be successful in the biggest game of all, the game of life. The most important point to make and yet the most unpopular is few travel players will become high school players, fewer are going to be college players and even fewer go on to be professional athletes, the available opportunities or "job" openings decrease dramatically with each level and the cream of the croup is selected from around the country, even the world now. This is just reality! So what is the most important part of playing team sports? It is the lessons you learn through preparation and competition that prepare you for the rest of your life.
  • Teaching players how to deal with a loss or failure and using it to grow from, we learn from our mistakes and we work harder. Life is full of challenges that most of us face as adults. Having the opportunity to face challenges at a younger age and learning how to deal with them helps make you a stronger, more confident person.
  • Never give up! Life is tough and quitting is easy to do, learning to never give up is something you gain from playing sports.
  • Improving players skills through practice, or perfect practice teaches us to do quality work not partial work. What boss will keep an employee around who puts out substandard work
  • Commitment
  • Teamwork
  • Self esteem
  • Academics
  • Work Ethics / 100% effort
  • Leadership - Lead by example on and off the field
  • Attitude -  Respect for the game, teammates, parents, coaches and other players
These are just a few qualities that make people successful in the "real world" and there are many more. The point is there are not many avenues in a young persons life to be exposed to these lessons before they become adults. I feel this is the best thing about playing sports, by being an athlete.Very few coaches/bosses/leaders can keep everyone happy, but all should be able to motivate their teams to do their best
